Reflections: Week 3 and 4

---Week 3 and 4 Reflections---

During the past two weeks of Environmental Health, we have spent our time watching “An Inconvenient Truth”, a film based on Al Gore’s crusade to stop global warming across the country. Gore touched many points in his documentary ranging from the temperatures that are steadily increasing, number of ice glaciers that are constantly melting, species that will slowly die, and the rapid spread of disease. For me, the most amazing fact was that global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet while the ice in Greenland and Antarctica melts.

After watching this documentary in class, I wanted to know more. I searched for the Inconvenient Truth website and came acro
ss a lot of great information. Some information that I found was covered in the documentary, other info was completely new to me. It is a website I would recommend to others and think the peers in my Environmental Health class would enjoy. Check it out!

On the website, you will find information like: interesting global warming facts, information about the film, ways you can reduce you impact on global warming at home and while on the move, 10 simple tips to live by, and information on how to help at a local, national and international level!

  1. I agree that sea levels rising by more than 20 feet would be quite amazing... I would even say terrifying!
Also, I like the website you linked to. The tips for saving energy at home were really good - there were even things that we can still do right now even while living in rental housing!

  2. I too, thought it was really neat that there was an actual website related to the movie. Some documentaries encourage you to act, but they don't provide any additional resources. I really liked to 10 simple tips simple tips to live by!

  3. It really is crazy how the worlds ice caps and glaciers are melting at such a rapid rate and we aren't doing much to help fix the problem.

  4. Erika-
I agree with you on the whole sea levels rising by more than 20 feet! Think of how that would effect so many people and their homes. When Al Gore showed in the documentary what the melting would do to some parts of the world it was incredible to see how drastic it would be.
